George Wajackoya now part of Maina Njenga’s legal team
Roots party leader George Wajakoya has been included as a counsel member in former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga’s case.
Wajakoya now joins Narc -Kenya party leader Martha Karua, and lawyers Ndengwa Njiru, Simon Mburu, Cheche and Munje.
Njenga pleaded not guilty to seven charges read to him at the Nakuru Law Court on Monday.
He was charged with several offenses including being a member of an organised crime and six charges of engaging in organised criminal activities.
Other charges include being in possession of firearms ammunition, government stores and psychotropic substances.
Maina Njenga was represented in court by a team of lawyers including Narc -Kenya party leader Martha Karua and Jeremiah Kioni and his Lawyer Ndengwa Njiru.
Karua faulted the DCI for referring to Njenga as an ex-Mungiki leader. She said the prosecution used tricks to separate Njenga from his lawyers but the DPP intervened to have him set free so that he can present him to court.
“They intended to keep him over the weekend, it was past 1 pm. There have been reports in the press that seem to prejudice the accused, and we want the court to give direction,” Karua said.
on his part, lawyer Njiru said, “Our client had been vilified by the press, yesterday in a function in Thika, the DP, made comments meant to lower the opinion of the right-thinking member of our society as our client is concerned.”
“Knowing the experience that our country has gone through….. we don’t want to go back there.”
