Azimio MPs insist on Monday protests, urge employers to release workers
The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party allied parliamentarians have confirmed that its mass action planned for Monday, March 20, will go ahead as planned.
The protest is aimed at demanding accountability and change from the current Kenya Kwanza administration.
The coalition party is demanding change on various issues, including the rising cost of living, state appointment discrimination, the privatization of government institutions, and the audit of IEBC servers. The parliamentary group has given full support to the protest.
“The high cost of goods is, therefore, a direct result of Ruto’s (President William Ruto) decisions and policy choices and which he continues to stand by,” the coalition party stated.
The group argues that these policies are hurting the country and that the government must be held accountable.
The party also opposes the government’s efforts to make Kenya a one-party state, stating that it opposes the determination to make Kenya a one-party state by buying legislators, orchestrating meaningless defections, and forcing other parties to fold and join its own.
Opposition chief Raila Odinga has declared Monday a “public holiday,” although only the Interior Cabinet Secretary has the authority to declare a public holiday, according to the law.
Wandayi called on employers to release their employees to participate in the mass action.
“Since it has already been declared a public holiday, all employers of all shades and areas should release all employees and allow them to participate in their national duty,” he said.
The coalition party believes that the protest is a necessary last resort aimed at restoring the dignity of the Kenyan people. It is hoped that the demonstration will result in meaningful changes to policies that are negatively impacting the country’s citizens.
