Take charge of your party – Elachi to Uhuru amid turbulence in Jubilee
Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi has called on Jubilee Party leader Uhuru Kenyatta to step up and take charge of the party amidst ongoing wrangles within the party.
Speaking on AM Live on Wednesday, Elachi criticized Uhuru’s failure to intervene in the party’s issues, calling it his biggest weakness.
“If you are a party leader, you must be hands-on. Be available for your members. And that way, you can be able to whip them when they get out of line,” Elachi said.

“My former president (Uhuru) must also become hands-on. I know it is his weakest link,” she added.
Her comments come after Jubilee Party Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni called for a National Delegates Convention to be held next month. The convention is expected to among other things, deliberate on replacing all legislators who have pledged allegiance to other political parties.
In response, Elachi urged the party to “rethink,” saying that “building a party is not an easy thing.”
Jubilee Party has been embroiled in controversy since its National Executive Committee suspended National Vice-Chairman David Murathe, Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni, and National Treasurer Kagwe Gichohi last week. The suspension led to the appointment of new officials to replace them.
The Registrar of Political Parties, Ann Nderitu, dismissed Kioni’s questions on the legality of Jubilee’s NEC meeting that approved his suspension as the party Secretary-General.
Kioni, in turn, obtained a court order barring the Registrar of Political Parties from effecting the leadership changes pending the hearing and determination of a matter they have filed.
He has also accused Deputy President William Ruto of attempting to wrestle the party away from Kenyatta.
“Ruto has been trying to wrestle the party away from Uhuru (Kenyatta) since 2021. They tried forming Jubilee Asili, but it wasn’t successful. This one too will not be successful,” Kioni said.
The former Ndaragwa MP also revealed that Kenyatta has chosen to remain silent amidst the tax evasion debate putting their family business empire in the spotlight, stating that Kenyatta’s interference would be destabilizing to the country.
“If he was to become vocal, he would be interfering with the management of the affairs of those in power today. He has his followers, and if he was to move around agitating for an issue, it would be destabilizing to the country,” Kioni added.
