Meru women professionals call for Senate to uphold Mwangaza’s impeachment
A group of Meru women professionals have urged Senate to uphold Governor Kawira Mwangaza’s impeachment.
During a press conference at the Serena Hotel on Tuesday, a group of women drawn from various professions in both the political and civic spheres said Governor Mwangaza lacked leadership characteristics.
Members of the Meru County Assembly, according to the group, were justified in impeaching the governor for serious misconduct and misuse of office.
“It is our concluded opinion that Meru County deserves quality leadership for development progress. We, therefore, appeal to the Senate to vote to impeach Governor Mwangaza to set the pace for progressive leadership,” said the group.
They added, “If the Senate does not convict her, it condemns the County to perpetual conflict and stagnation.”
The women also chastised the governor for her “indecent public demeanour,” which they said was undermining public trust in her integrity.
They claimed the governor had multiple public spats and mocked MCAs by using harsh phrases in the native Meru language “that may be translated to signify dogs.”
While disputing charges that the governor is being targeted because she is a woman, the group stated that the relationship between Mwangaza and other county institutions is irreparably destroyed and that impeachment of the county head was the only alternative.
