Governor Mwangaza denies being served by EACC
Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has denied being summoned by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission.
Mwangaza told the media during the flag-off of KEMSA medicine worth KES 53 million that she will comply if called upon by the agency.
“About the allegations made by EACC, I am categorically stating that neither I nor my office has been served, am waiting upon them and once they do so, I will respond appropriately,” Mwangaza said.
While admitting that the ‘said letter’ could be related to her recent battle with Meru MCAs, Mwangaza cautioned that she was working to combat corruption and cartels in the county and that she would not be intimidated.
“EACC ought not to be used by politicians to witch hunt leaders who are thoroughly fighting corruption, my quest to fight cartels in Meru is relentless,” she said.
Mwangaza has been facing a mutiny from Meru MCAs over the ward development budget.
The MCAs have accused her of arrogance and pride, and claim that the governor has failed to meet with them or answer their calls and messages on multiple occasions.
Mwangaza’s effort to deliver her inaugural address to the county assembly last week failed afterward representatives walked out on her.
During Monday’s press conference, Mwangaza stated that she will no longer deal with ward representatives on a casual basis. She stated that because the ward fund is not legally established, they must send a formal letter seeking it.
“For the sake of the common Meru mwananchi I have this morning requested the Meru MCA’S through their speaker to come up with a written proposal of the ward development fund that they have been protesting for,” she said.
“This proposal must be anchored on law and I am stating that my office is ready and willing to allocate the amounts they so wish,’ she added.
Mwangaza also justified her decision to remove the MCAs from the County WhatsApp group, claiming that there was no need for them to be there if they were not in agreement.
