Muslim leaders tell President Ruto and his deputy to mend fences for the sake of Kenyans

The Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) has urged President William Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to settle their differences for the sake of development in the country.

North Rift CIPK Chairman Sheikh Abubakar Bini and Eldoret Masjid Noor Imam Awadhi Jamal say the two leaders ought to unite and continue working together, instead of exposing their variances before members of the public.

Speaking at Masjid Noor Mosque in Eldoret during the two-day celebrations of Idd-ul-Adha, the leaders expressed fear that the altercations between the two leaders have the potential to enhance animosity among their followers.

“Unfortunately, our President and his deputy are members of the same political party UDA under the Kenya Kwanza leadership, yet they are exposing their differences in the public which is a dangerous trend for the unity of our country,” regretted Sheikh Bini.

Sheikh Bini regretted that the differences between the two leaders will not only spur hostility among their followers but also have the potential to affect important decision-making in government, citing the ongoing discussions on the Finance Bill 2024.

Sheikh Bini said the disagreement between President Ruto and Mr Gachagua would greatly affect common mwananchi who expect the government to create viable rules and laws for development and prosperity.

“Differences between President Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua are scary, especially at a time when Parliament is expected to discuss the much contested Finance Bill 2024, which has a huge impact on Wanjiku. We are telling the two leaders to put aside their differences and review the Bill to delete contested issues by working together as leaders who value the cries of Kenyans who elected them by putting ahead the needs of Wanjiku who should be given priority of benefitting from the laws passed by our legislative arm,” said Sheikh Bini.

Imam Awadhi echoed Sheikh Bini challenging President Ruto to be at the forefront in ensuring the unity of all Kenyans, bearing in mind that the President is the symbol of national unity.

He, however, appealed to Muslims to support the leadership of President Ruto by praying for the country and averting differences that have the potential of fueling disunity in the country.

He further urged Muslims not to be carried away by differences in celebrating Idd-ul-Adha.

“Our role as Muslim leaders is to pray for all leaders and differences in celebrations should not bring divisions. Our prayer is that Kenyans through the leadership of President Ruto and his deputy will continue working together to attract God’s blessings,” said Imam Awadhi.

At the same time, the leaders have called upon the Judiciary Service Commission (JSC) to employ more magistrates to preside over the Kadhis Court.

Sheikh Bini said about 15 magistrates retired from the court and they are yet to be replaced, hence the lack of magistrates is making it hard for Muslims to get justice on time in the court.

“We request JSC to replace all retired magistrates in Kadhi’s court and employ more magistrate magistrates in the court to fast-track all cases that have been piling in the court as well as making the court more efficient in service delivery,” he said.

Further, the Muslim leaders joined Kenyans in condemning the recent shooting of a magistrate by a police officer.

“Muslims are peace-loving Kenyans and we join other Kenyans to condemn the recent incident of the shooting of a magistrate who succumbed to injuries,” stated Sheikh Bini.
