Soon after the advent of devolution in 2013, Baringo county embarked on construction of health facilities in far flung areas, to address medical needs of residents in remote areas. But due to failure to recruit and deploy staff to run the facilities, more than 50 health centres built between 2013 and 2022, have been lying idle for years, some even being used as maize stores, leaving locals suffering even further. The situation is dire, as, for instance, expectant mothers who go into labour are normally faced with a tough choice, give birth at home, or on the way to hospital, which is sometimes tens of kilometres away. September 1, 2024It is now thirty-four years since the death of then vocal ACK Bishop of Eldoret Diocese Alexander Muge that occurred through a tragic and suspicious road accident near Kipkaren river along Webuye -Eldoret highway.
At the time, the late Muge was a fierce government critic and was among prominent religious leaders who had joined forces with a section of politicians, academics, lawyers and other civil society groups, in agitating for a return to multiparty politics in the country. His death was largely seen as a political assassination as Kenya grappled with one of the darkest periods of its post-independence history.
