Counties to partner with a philanthropic NGO to promote education, health care
The Council of Governors (CoG) is seeking to collaborate with an independent firm, Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), in accelerating health, protection, and education programs for children in the country.
CIFF is an independent philanthropic organisation with offices in Addis Ababa, Beijing, London, Nairobi and New Delhi.
In a meeting between CoG Chair, Governor Anne Waiguru, and CIFF Founder Christopher Hohn, the council expressed a desire to scale up their interventions aimed at transforming the lives of children in Kenya.
The partnership involves support for an innovative school feeding program, capacity building of Community Health Workers (CHWs), and the implementation of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) projects.
Governor Waiguru expressed her satisfaction with the discussions, saying, “We have held very fruitful discussions on how counties can forge strategic partnerships with CIFF in order to scale up interventions for community transformation through initiatives such as school feeding and WASH programs, neonatal and child healthcare, child protection as well as support for Community Health Workers (CHWs).”
CIFF Founder Christopher Hohn expressed his organization’s willingness to partner on a fifty-fifty cost-sharing basis with County Governments in promoting community health through capacity building of CHWs and providing them with digital equipment for capturing data and measuring the progress of implementation of interventions.
Hohn added, “We aim at eliminating all barriers to the successful realization of the child health and education goal.”
Governor Waiguru commended the cost-sharing approach, saying that it enhances ownership of the programs by the governments and communities.
She also noted the importance of investing in preventive healthcare and improving child nutrition and sanitation to prevent diseases.
CIFF is a philanthropic organization that invests in programs that have the potential to transform the lives of children and adolescents, with a focus on child health, child protection, and education.
Last year, the organization invested $500 million in implementing various programs globally.
The COG Chair hopes to focus on strengthening the healthcare system in the next five years, with the aim of providing better outcomes and scaling up the performance and quality management models of community health workers.
